Myco House

Type:     Competition

Starting with a simple building block, the Myco Home posits a method for reimagining waste streams as local supply chains for building materials. Wood waste and mushroom mycelium are formed into blocks. These are filled with low carbon concrete, and clad in recycled paper shingles resulting in a water-tight, insulated, structurally sound building system made entirely of local, recycled material.

Our competition winning entry showed how this system could be deployed on a typical Vancouver lot at the pace of a growing family. Even the materials reclaimed from a demolished house on the site could be completely reused, resulting in a collection of structures built completely of waste products.
