PARK VISTA APARTMENTS

TYPE: MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL, RENTAL

YEAR: 2020-PRESENT

The design of this multi-family residential building in Langley, BC transitions between two eras of urban development. The past is characterized by smaller structures and lower densities but the upcoming extension of the Skytrain network will bring with it much denser developments. To bridge these eras, this design features confidently vertical blocks on the three exterior corners of the site, bound together to frame and define exterior courtyards. The resulting staggered building form creates corner access for a majority of units in the building, maximizing air and light access from exterior exposures on two sides of the units.

Visualizations by Miguel Orellana.

THIS BUILDING IS THE FIRST OF TWO PHASES OF DEVELOPMENT.

When complete, it will join several parcels to the north, increasing the number of residents on this site significantly. Allowances have been made for the two phases to physically connect via a bridge at the second-floor level. Residents will be able to exit the gym, pass the roof deck covering the picnic pavilion, and connect directly to the amenity spaces next door. In this way, both phases of the development will be able to share amenities, encouraging neighbors to cross paths and form stronger social connections across the entire block.
