Vancouver Art Gallery

Vancouver doesn’t have a main public plaza, its art gallery is too cramped for contemporary art, and it’s missing a grand entrance to the downtown core. This unsolicited proposal aimed to deliver all three in a single proposal. Titled the “Vancouver Mat” this new location for the Vancouver Art Gallery would become a welcome mat for visitors entering downtown and would create a new civic plaza worthy of this growing city. Sited on top of the Granville bridge, the Mat would occupy the site of the on and off ramps that have been slated for demolition and would connect directly to a new linear sculpture park in the centre of the bridge.
