Union St. Pollock House

type:         residential, infill house, heritage
year:          2018

Built in 1891, the Pollock house is one of the oldest structures in Strathcona. Throughout its colourful history, it has served as a residence, a brothel, a rooming house, and a reading room.

Today, it houses seven SRO units, which will be retained, refurbished and offered to resident artists when the heritage rehabilitation is complete. In addition to the breathing new life into a heritage structure, a new infill building will be built in the rear yard along the lane. This 2-1/2 storey structure will add an additional 3-bedroom home to the property and will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the history of this site.
