East Vancouver Laneway House

Type:      Residential, Detached

Laneway homes (sometimes called coach houses, carriage houses, secondary dwellings or ADUs)  are a type of infill housing that have been built in the city of Vancouver since 2009 to inject density into existing neighbourhoods, without altering their character.

The East Van Laneway Home is a study in a split level approach that we've been playing with lately. This makes for a much more efficient use of the stairs and allows for a more gratuitous ceiling height inside the laneway home. A crawl space under the ground level houses the mechanical system and storage, bedrooms occupy the lower level, the kitchen has a connection to the living & dining space upstairs. We'd say this worked out quite well, and made for a cozy home.
