Creating a comfortable public space in a parking stall just a few feet from speeding traffic is a challenge. In order to produce an oasis in this chaotic environment, Davie Knoll mimics the form of a gently rolling hill, dotted with clumps of grass – condensing and transporting the qualities of a verdant park into a parklet. It Replaces lawn with durable, recycled rubber. These gentle mounds and curving valleys offer places not just to sit but to lay back and sprawl out as well, inviting visitors to take postures usually foreign to the gritty sidewalks of a commercial street.
